Panama Fishing Hole Fishing Trip Sponsors “Another Great Reason to Fish”

Every year we organize a new “Great Reason to Fish”.  Previous years were dedicated to the “4th of July”, “Brett and Sayira’s Wedding”, etc.  This next year’s theme is simple.  “Eric has his passport and already bought tickets, another great reason to fish!”.  As we recall our good buddy Eric Pehrson has had a string of bad luck in the past with a lost passport and last minute cancelations – I wouldn’t give him such a hard time about it, except that I know he would have rather been with us on the ocean.

Eric has tickets from July 30 and returning home on August 6, 2010.  The plan is to go to Pedasi on Saturday (after 630PM for my Orthodox Jewish buddies), fish on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (1-3 August) and return to Panama City on Wednesday August 4th.

I know that not everyone will be able to take off so much time, so if any flexibility is required, please just let me know and I can make arrangements to change the schedule to accommodate everyone.  For those who haven’t seen it, Panama Fishing Hole recently had a visit from the Argentinian fishing program “Video Pesca” and their 30-minute video presentation came out last Saturday.  It’s all in Spanish, but who needs to know what their saying to understand a fishing show?  Here is the link to that:

We will probably NOT be staying at “La Playita” this year.  Our last stay there was not as accommodating as previous years.  In fact, one of the employees suggested we eat elsewhere at Playa Venado when their cook did not show up to prepare dinner for the guests.  So, this year we’re just going to go to “El Sitio” on Playa Venado.  The rooms are priced as follows:

MAX 2 PEOPLE:

La Luna standard room – 2 single beds for $75 per night

Estrellas standard room – 1 queen for $75 per night

Las Olas and El Morro specialties – 1 queen for $90 per night

Oria and Las Palmas – King sized bed, cable TV for 2 people for $120 per night

Sunrise and Sunset Suites: – king sized bed, cable TV, balcony with ocean front view, $135 per night

Almendro and El Sol suites: – King sized bed, cable TV, balcony with ocean front view, $145 per night

MAX 3 PEOPLE:

La Playa economy – 1 bunk bed and one single bed for 3 people for $90 per night

Brisas and Marea – King sized bed and single bed, ground floor for 3 people for $105 per night

MAX 4 PEOPLE

Arenas economy – 2 bunk beds (4 beds total) for 4 people for $100 per night

The cost of fishing has not gone up much over the years and this year remains the same as it has been since 10 years ago.  It’s $50 per day per boat plus fuel.  Most of us will be trolling, so expect to be using $50-$60 in fuel per day.  With the ice, vehicle transportation for the guides and whatnot, it will is estimated to cost $120 per day per boat for fishing all inclusive.  With 2-3 people per boat, this is $40-$60 per person, per day.  As always, not a bad price.

Transportation from Panama City to Pedasi.  For those who live outside the country and want to come, there are cheap, moderate and luxurious hotels in the city that will accommodate everyone’s specific needs.  I can set this up to meet your fancy, but the prices will range from $35-$250 per night depending on your needs/wants.  On Saturday July 31, I’ll be taking our family vehicle which will seat the driver plus 3 maximum plus the gear.  If the number of interested fishermen gets too high, then this will more than likely hold the coolers and gear.  If it gets REALLY high like it did one year (20+ fishermen), then we’ll rent a van to load the gear and supplies.  This will have to be a last minute call more than likely.  In the past, I’ve noted that for every 3 fishermen in the group, we definitely need at least one rental car.  Everyone should leave out on Saturday whenever they are ready.  F you are not sure of how to get to Pedasi, I’ll have maps readily available and contact information if anyone gets lost.

You are most welcome to bring your own gear – it is also recommended if we get a lot of people to come.  We have enough gear for 3 boats (9 people).  After that, one of our guides can rent poles and whatnot to us for $10.00 per day (or a bit more, I’m not sure).
